How Long Does it Take to Install a Stairlift?

Once you have chosen your ideal stairlift, you will need to have it installed by a professional. To ensure that you plan around the fitting, you will want to know how long it will take to install the stairlift. Knowing how long it will take will not only save you frustration, but will also help you notify family, friends, or caretakers to be close by in case you need some extra help. Here’s what you need to know about your stairlift installation.

What Happens During a Stairlift Installation?

If you provided accurate measurements of your stairs or a Freedom Mobility Tech measured for you, you should have already received an estimate for how much it will cost to install your stairlift. If you are happy with the price, you contact your stairlift store to schedule an installation.

Before the installation, you will want to clear the area at the bottom and top of the staircase. That way, the installer will be able to get right to work installing your new stairlift. Once the installer arrives, they will carefully fit your custom-made stair rail track to your staircase.

How Long Will it Take?

Your stairlift installation can take anywhere from four to eight hours. How long it takes to install your stairlift depends on the size and shape of the stairs it’s being fitted to. The technicians at Freedom Mobility work hard to have your stairlift installed in a timely manner. Their training and expertise make them the best people for the job.

Installing a Straight Stairlift

When having a straight stairlift installed, you can expect it to take around six hours to complete. Since the stairlift track goes straight along your staircase, the process is more straightforward than with a curved stairlift. Sometimes it may even take less than four hours to install.

Installing a Curved Stairlift

You can expect it to take around three to eight hours to install a curved stairlift. They are a little bit more complicated to install compared to a straight stairlift. That is because the installers need to take extra time to ensure that the bespoke rails fit around all the bends, turns, and curves of your staircase.

What Happens After it’s Installed?

Once your new stairlift is installed, your technicians will do a final safety check before showing you how to operate it. Usually operating a stairlift is straightforward, so this won’t take long. Finally, your technicians will share relevant paperwork with you, and the installation will be complete.
