3 Reasons to Invest in a Stairlift for Your Loved One

There are several reasons why investing in a stairlift may be a good idea for your loved one.

Safety

At the end of the day, the most important element of your loved one’s care is their safety. If they have trouble going up and down the stairs because of their balance, strength, or other factors, then your loved one is probably at risk for a fall. Falling down the stairs can be disastrous for seniors, but with a stairlift, you can rest easy knowing they can safely travel from one floor to the other. Stairlifts can be powered by batteries so they won’t stop working in the event of a power outage. We’d be happy to discuss your options.

Security

If your loved one lives in a multi-floor home you may feel they shouldn’t live there on their own anymore. After all, if they’re confined to one floor, then the house wouldn’t be well-utilized either way. This could lead to discussion of who will stay with them or whether or not they should live with you or another relative. With a stairlift, this transition can be avoided or delayed, as it will afford your loved one a measure of their independence back.

Serenity

As with many mobility solutions, Seniors are able to regain some of the independence that was lost. When this happens, they may feel happier and may push to become more active. The burden of being disabled can weigh heavily on anyone, and when we work to alleviate that burden, our hearts become lighter.

What Are Your Options for a Stairlift?

If you’re interested in bringing a stairlift into your home, then you have the option of either renting or purchasing new.

  • Renting a stairlift is a good idea for those of you who do not see a long-term need. For example, if your loved one is coming to visit you or recovering from a surgery.
  • Purchasing a stairlift is better for long-term arrangements or those short-term arrangements where renting would cost more than an outright purchase.

Please note in both cases that at least 29” of width is needed within a staircase to operate a stairlift comfortably. When we talk about your options for a stairlift, we’ll confirm such necessary details.
