Can You Use a Stairlift with a Curved Staircase?

The Freedom Mobility

Difference

I can't thank Kelly and her staff enough for how helpful and caring they have been during my mother's recovery. It is obvious that they have the client's best interests in mind. I highly recommend this company!

Customer

One of the most common myths about stairlifts is that they are only suited for traditional, straight staircases. Luckily, mobility equipment technology has come a long way and is often customizable in order to suit the needs of anyone requiring mobility solutions both inside and outside of the home.

Freedom Mobility offers stairlift rentals in Maryland to suit your needs. Here’s a quick look at our custom curved stairlifts, available for purchase or rent.

Stairlift Customization

With modern technology, manufacturers have created customizable stairlifts that have custom-cut tracks to fit almost any size or shape staircase you have. The stairlift’s track is attached to your stairs, rather than the wall, and can be placed on either side of the staircase. Before your stairlift can be installed, our experts will make a visit to your home at your convenience to take measurements that will allow them to order the proper track and chair for your home.

Curved Stairlift Features

At Freedom Mobility, our custom curved stairlifts come with useful features that include:

  • A seat that folds when not in use.
  • A comfortable chair with padded back and seat.
  • Smart-sensing capabilities that detect for track obstruction.
  • A safety belt for optimal security.
  • A battery backup in case of power outages.

Stairlift Restrictions

Although we are proud to offer our customers the stairlifts and customizable mobility solutions that will suit their needs as best as possible, there are some restrictions when it comes to stairlifts in particular. For example, your staircase needs to be at least 29 inches wide in order to allow you to use any type of stairlift comfortably. If your stairway is more narrow, give us a call and we will work with you as best we can to find the mobility solution you need.

For more than one set of stairs where a landing area is present, you often have two options:

  • Having two different stairlifts installed; one on each stet of stairs.
  • Using a curved staircase track that will allow you to travel up both sets of stairs without having to get up and move to the next chair at the landing space.
