mobility tips 2020

Tip #1: Maintain a Healthy Weight

Did you know that your body has to work harder to function properly if you are overweight? Be sure to maintain a healthy weight with the help of a balanced diet and regular exercise. If you’re overweight and unsure of how to lose weight, consider seeking a nutritionist. They can tell you what your ideal weight should be, as well as develop a diet plan that works best for you to stay healthy and mobile.

Tip #2: Strength Training

Engaging in strength training exercises can help tremendously with your mobility. If you are a beginner or have never weight trained before, you can gain muscle and strength that helps you gain better mobility. Just be sure to start slow and gradually increase weight. If you aren’t new to strength training, continue doing it. You may not see any visible muscle growth, but you will still increase your strength. An optimal number of times to strength train at any level is three to four times a week.

Tip #3: Live an Active Lifestyle

In addition to strength training, living an overall active lifestyle helps with your mobility. It doesn’t have to be limited to just strength training. There are so many activities you can do. Anything is better than nothing! You can: Take a 20-minute walk daily

  • Join a senior group
  • Garden
  • Practice yoga
  • Visit local attractions
  • Visit family

Any activity that gets your body moving will help you maintain mobility.

Tip #4: Treat Illnesses Early

For some people, being sick for long periods of time can cause a significant decrease in your mobility. This is especially true when the ailments are associated with anything that affects your mobility such as tremors, or joint pain. That’s why it’s important to get treatment often and early to prevent mobility loss.

Tip #5: Choose the Right Mobility Equipment

Lastly, having the right equipment to get around is the most important thing for your mobility. If you struggle with balance, it would be beneficial to get a walker or a rollator to help you walk properly. If you rely on a wheelchair for your mobility, make sure that your wheelchair fits you and your lifestyle. A personalized wheelchair can improve your mobility and improve your overall lifestyle.
